Ruth Solona Baldwin was born the daughter of Herbert and Ethel (Potter) Baldwin on Oct. 13, 1917, in Fargo. Growing up, she attended Dilworth Public School in Dilworth, Minn. On Feb. 14, 1936, Ruth married Henry Sherbrooke at his parents' home near Cormorant. Ruth's work and joy was raising her family. She also worked outside the home cleaning lake homes, being a dining room hostess at Fair Hills Resort on Pelican Lake and working at the Concordia College Faculty Post Office.

Henry died on November 4, 1990, at his home. Ruth entered the Good Samaritan Society in Barnesville in April 2007. As a longtime member of Cormorant Lutheran Church, Ruth was involved in many areas, including ladies aid, circle, Bible study, and Sunday School superintendent and teacher. She was active in the community, especially with those activities that involved her family, including PTA and 4-H.

Ruth enjoyed music, often being involved with vocal ensembles. She had many interests and creative hobbies, including fabric arts and gardening. Another interest was history of the area and family genealogy.

With her husband, Ruth created a loving home with much fun, laughter -- and great food. She often spoke of how God had so richly blessed her with her childhood family, her husband, children, grandchildren and other family and friends. Her faith in God was a constant source of strength throughout her life. She leaves a legacy of love commitment to a grateful family and community.

Surviving Ruth are her two sons, Richard (Kathy) Sherbrooke of Cormorant and Ron (Joanne) Sherbrooke of Lake Park; three daughters, Annetta (Gary) Nelson of Petersburg, N.D., Becky (Steve) Frank of Moorhead and Jennifer Sherbrooke of Hawley; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter (Noni) Baldwin of Anchorage, Alaska; four sisters, Edith Erickson of Anchorage, Rhoda Page of Vancouver, Wash., Vida Karnofski of Longview, Wash., and Rene (Frank) Schmidt of Vancouver.

Preceding Ruth in death were her her parents; husband; granddaughter, Rhonda Bartsch; two sisters, Ethel Fairfowl and Esther Bacon; one brother, Francis "Lucky" and two infant brothers, James Thomas and Henry Robert.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 25, at Cormorant Lutheran Church, rural Lake Park, with the Rev. Gary Van Hunnik officiating. Burial was in Lake Ida Cemetery, rural Lake Park. Ruth grandsons served as pallbearers.

Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, was entrusted with arrangements. An online guest book is at larsonfuneralpelicanrapids.com.
