Ruth Alice Amrine Voeltz Schenhiet died at home on July 22, 2014. She was born on November 10, 1924 in Hutchinson, Kansas to Walter and Mary (Klobuchar) Amrine. They moved around with the railroad where Walter was working and Mary was a cook. They stayed at Hayden, New Mexico for Ruth to start school. They lived on a cattle ranch and when they left there, they moved to Mizpah, Minnesota and stayed with Walters sister and her husband and worked in their sawmill east of Mizpah. They homesteaded on their place in 1935. Ruth went to school in Gemmell and Northome. She graduated from there in 1942.
She married Amos Voeltz at St. Michaels in Northome on April 23, 1944. They had twin girls, Dianne Marie Wiley (Larry Fee) of Mizpah and Leanne Perryman of Omaha, Nebraska. Amos died from burns on August 22, 1952. Ruth and the twins then moved back to Mizpah where she met Reinhard (Rocky) Schenhiet and they were married on October 10, 1953. They had Raymond of Mizpah, Richard (Jeanette) of Dassel, Minnesota, Earl (Deb) of Mizpah and Carol (Larry) Eckman of Bemidji, Minnesota.
She was always very active in the American Legion Auxiliary, Bethesda Lutheran Ladies Aide and the PTA. She served as president for the 16th District PTA and was a member of the National AARP.
She enjoyed reading, puzzles (crossword and Sudoku) and playing cards and bingo. She was an excellent cook and very good at organization.
In her later years, we, as her family, deeply appreciate our hometown families who would answer her beeping her car horn for service or list of things she needed from the stores. We send special thanks to Linda Dreher for all her help throughout the years.
She is preceded in death by two sisters, Jane and Esther; two brothers, Walter Jr. and Thomas, who died at birth; both her father, Walter Harvey Amrine and her mother, Mary Amrine and both husbands, Amos Voeltz and Reinhard Schenhiet.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Mizpah, MN with Rev. Jesse Kneeland officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held in the Mizpah Cemetery. Cease Funeral Home of Blackduck assisted the family with arrangements.
