Ruth Rethwisch

Former Frazee resident Ruth L. Rethwisch, 85, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, November 21, 2008 at Innovis Health in Fargo.

Ruth Leona Illg was born to Robert and Leona (Kadolph) Illg on Oct. 14, 1923 in Silver Leaf Township, rural Frazee. She was educated at District 85 rural school in Silver Leaf Township. Following her schooling, she moved to St. Paul, where she worked as a nanny and as a waitress for the Roman Café.

Ruth married Henry E. Rethwisch on June 17, 1948 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee. They farmed 200 acres in section 15 of Silver Leaf Township. Henry died June 16, 2007. Ruth moved to Park Manor in Detroit Lakes in October of that same year. Ruth was active with the V.F.W. Ladies' Auxiliary, the Christian Mothers and taught catechism at Sacred Heart Church for many years. She was chairman of the local blood drive for a number of years and enjoyed helping with the vision and hearing screening at Frazee Public Schools.

Ruth enjoyed crocheting, baking and senior citizen activities. She remained active with her family activities, friends and

volunteer work until the time of her death.

Surviving Ruth are her three sons, David (Linda Bellanger) Rethwisch of Frazee, Thomas (Susan) Rethwisch of Las Cruces, N.M., and Joseph (Francine) Rethwisch of Detroit Lakes; a daughter, Teresa (Dale) Fett of Frazee; 10 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; as well as four sisters, Betty Olson of Detroit Lakes, Darlene (Elmer) Fresonke of Perham, Helen (Ben) Nelson of Detroit Lakes and Joyce (Richard) Severson of Warroad, Minn.

In addition to her

husband, Henry, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert "Sonny" and LuVerne "Tiny" Illg; and three brothers-in-law, Eddie Stephensen, Denny Olson and Clarence Rethwisch.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24 at Furey Funeral Home in Frazee; there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. The visitation will continue for one hour prior to the mass at the church on Tuesday.

A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee, with the Rev. Jerry Rogers officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
