Ruth Kummer, 79, of Bemidji, MN, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Havenwood Care Center, Bemidji.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji with Pastor Kent Dudley officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in the spring in Evergreen Cemetery, Northern Township, Bemidji.
Ruth Ann Johnson was born May 1, 1934, the daughter of Percy and Anna (Ehry) Johnson, in a 2 room house on a farm in Northern Township, Beltrami County, MN. Ruth Ann went to Northern School, Bemidji Junior and Senior High school, and BSTC/BSU. She married Charles Anthony Kummer September 9, 1955. They moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where they lived until after the earthquake in 1964. They then moved back to the farm in Northern Township where they raised their four children. Ruth taught at the Anchorage High School, Bemidji High School, the Alternative Learning Center, and tutored and subbed for ISD 31. She had the Red Barn for consignment sales, was Northern Township clerk, and had Jons Refuse Service. Ruth dabbled in oil painting and some personal writings, along with her interest in genealogy, sewing, knitting, crocheting and her need for books. Clutter was her bane in life and organization was beyond her control.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; children, Jon (Donna), Barbara (Randon) Lund, Mary Peterson and Patricia (Steven) Simberg; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Anna Johnson and sister, Doris Brooks.
