Ruth Graves, 82, of Bemidji, MN, died Sunday, May 5, 2013 in her home surrounded by her nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Bethel Lutheran Church, Bemidji with Rev. Mark Kindem officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji.
Ruth Marie Statton was born July 23, 1930 in Cumberland, WI to William and Mable (Mullikin) Statton. The family moved to Bemidji in 1938 where she attended Northern Elementary School and graduated from Bemidji High School. At the age of eighteen, she worked for the F-W Woolworths Co. and at nineteen worked for the J.C. Penney Co. until her marriage to Byron Graves in 1955. They moved to Pine River, MN where she worked as a bookkeeper for Land O Lakes Co. She also was a secretary for the Alberta School System. Ruth and Byron moved to Minneapolis for a year where she worked for the University of Minnesota while Byron attended the University. In 1970 they moved back to Bemidji and she worked at J.C. Penneys until her retirement in 1992. Ruth was always involved in volunteer work and many kinds of crafts, knitting, quilt making and Brazilian embroidery.
She is survived by her brother, Manford Statton of Thompson Falls, MT sisters, Evelyn Behling of Clayton, NC and Lois Moe of Bemidji; sisters-in-law, Marlys Statton of AZ, Doris Statton of Clinton, WI, Delores Statton of Cumberland, WI and Lois Statton of Bemidji, MN and 18 nieces and 12 nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Will & Mabel Statton; husband, Byron; sister, Leota Helsing Buss; and brothers, Joe, Dale, Don, Ralph, Warren Bud and Clyde; brothers-in-law, John Helsing, Lawrence Buss, Clayton Behling and Earl Moe; sisters-in-law, Marie Statton, Doris Statton and Cubby Statton.
