Ruby Canoy Owen, 92, of Blackduck, died Thursday, March 5, 2009, at North County Regional Hospital in Bemidji.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blackduck Evangelical Free Church with the Rev. Dwight Warden officiating. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 8 p.m., at Cease Family Funeral Home in Blackduck and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will in Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck.
She was born to Jim and Clara Canoy in a log cabin overlooking the Yellowstone River outside of Sydney, Mont. She was one of eight children including six brothers and one sister. She married Clifford Owen May 16, 1937. She was involved in many of her husband's various jobs, from moving houses to helping with his crop dusting businesses. She enjoyed adventure from horseback riding to snowmobiling. She traveled around the world and the United States. She enjoyed family outings and visiting friends. She was a member of Hines Hoe & Hope Garden Club. She was active in church and church groups wherever she lived at the time. She enjoyed spending time with great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth (Janell) Owen of Hines, Elaine(Tom) Jacobsen of Proctor; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Grant Canoy and Leighton Canoy, both of Great Falls, Mont.; and sister, Nadine Gillette of Santa Cruz, Calif.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Lawrence, Roland, Russel and Junior; and a niece.
