The funeral service for Roy A. Marshall, 85, of High Forest,MN., will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday (February 21, 2014) at the United Methodist Church in Stewartville,MN. with Rev. Wane Souhrada officiating. Mr. Marshall died on Monday (February 17, 2014), following a short illness with cancer, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester,MN. where he had been a patient for 1 week.

Roy Alfred Marshall was born on August 12, 1928 in Pleasant Valley Twsp., Mower County, Mn. to Ray and Clara(Wyatt) Marshall. He grew up on the family farm in High Forest Twsp. and attended rural schools. He enlisted into the Merchant Marine serving on supply ships overseas during WW II. Following his discharge he returned to High Forest. Roy was married on September 18, 1948 at the Stewartville United Methodist Church to Betty Jo Collins. The couple lived on the Marshall family farm for a number of years, farming and raising their family. They were later divorced. He was also employed at the Hayes Lucas Lumber Yard and for Bill Russell Construction, both in Stewartville. Roy was employed for over 20 years with the City of Stewartville as a maintence worker and following his retirement continued to operate a mower part-time for many years for the City. He was a past member of Stewartville United Methodist Church and the Stewartville Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, mowing, reading and watching Westerns, college and pro football, especially the Vikes. Roy played guitar and sang in a local band for a few years and enjoyed listening to country western music. He enjoyed time spent with all of his family.

Roy is survived by 2 daughters and 2 sons - Bruce of Colville,WA; Daniel(Jody) of High Forest,MN.; Cynthia Grundmeier and Debra Marshall (Doug Erickson) both of Hines,MN.; 4 grandchildren - Collin(Melissa) Marshall, Thomas Marshall(Jade Devaney), Sarah Marshall(Chris Martin) and Kate Marshall; 1 great grandson - Dominic and a sister - Glennie Light of Stewartville. He was preceded in death by his son - Thomas, his parents, an infant sister - Vera and 6 brothers - Homer, Marion, Farlow, Harry, Charles, Keith and a brother-in-law - Hayden Light.

Friends may call 1 hr. prior to the service at the church on Friday morning. A private family burial will take place in the spring at High Forest Cemetery.
