Rose Alvina Gritz
Rose Alvina Gritz, 87, of Park Rapids, died Monday, March 30, 2009 at St. Joseph's Area Health Services in Park Rapids.
She was born July 29, 1921 in Breckenridge to John Rudolph and Rose T. (Svoboda) Mikesh. She was their first child. Her father was a farmer and they lived in Campbell, Minn. and Osnabrock, N.D. She went to school through the eighth grade in Osnabrock and country school.
She married Roby Edwand Gritz on Dec. 30, 1942. They lived on a rental farm in Diller, Neb. then moved to Burchard, Neb., before settling in Lincoln, Neb. in the early 1950s. They retired in 1983 and moved to Park Rapids where she has lived since. She was a member of the congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Park Rapids.
She is survived by two daughters: Marjorie (Steve) Brown, of Olathe, Kan., and Gloria (Terry) Thoreson, of Park Rapids; two sisters: Elsie (Herbert) Ulberg, of Lincoln, Neb., and Angeline (Dave) Gottsman, of Park Rapids; a brother, John (Joyce) Mikesh, of Park Rapids; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Roby Jr.; three brothers: Henry, Frank and Vincient Mikesh; two sisters: Alvina Mikesh and Tillie Horgdal; and an infant sister, Henrietta Mikesh.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. today (Saturday), April 4 at Park Rapids Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Mike Kaufenberg will be speaker.
