Ronald E. Broberg Sr.
Ronald E. Broberg Sr., 73, rural Detroit Lakes, died Friday, April 3, 2009, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, N.D.
Ron was born on April 19, 1935, the son of Harry and Hulda (Dorff) Broberg in Audubon. He was raised and attended school in Audubon until the age of 13, when Ron's family moved to rural Detroit Lakes. As a young adult, Ron was active in Golden Gloves Boxing and worked for Addison-Miller Ice Company removing snow off the ice for the harvest.
Ron was united in marriage to Marietta Johnson on June 8, 1957, in Assembly of God Church, Detroit Lakes. They made their home in Detroit Lakes. Ron enlisted in the National Guard and during his training they lived in California before returning to Detroit Lakes. Upon his return, he worked at Haldorson's Su-per Value as market manager for nine years. He then began working for Armours Meat Company as a sales-man for 24 years, until retiring in 1991.
Ron was a member of Lakes Area Vineyard Church. He had a talent for making beautiful pieces of furniture for his family. The wood used for these masterpieces, Ron would cut from his own property. He also enjoyed cutting wood to be sold as firewood. Ron was always willing to lend a helping hand with projects for his children or a neighbor. He truly enjoyed visiting with his family and friends.
Ron is survived by his wife, Marietta; two sons, Ron (Nancy) Broberg Jr., Detroit Lakes, Anthony (Peggy) Broberg, Big Lake, Minn.; two daughters, Carla (Mike) Ossler, Detroit Lakes, Stacy (Steve) Stearns, Detroit Lakes; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Haldorson, Coon Rapids, Minn., Ruth Broberg, Coon Rapids; sister-in-law, Theresa Broberg, Detroit Lakes; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leroy Broberg; a sister, Gladys Broberg; a brother-in-law, James Haldorson, and two nephews.
The funeral service is Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at 2 p.m. in Lakes Area Vineyard Church, Detroit Lakes.
Visitation is Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. in Lakes Area Vineyard Church.
