Ronald J. Beckwith, 66, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, November 28, 2008 at his home.
Ronald James Beckwith, known as Jim, was born June 4, 1942 in Hammond, Ind. He lived in several communities with his family prior to coming to rural Detroit Lakes in 1954. He attended Frazee Public Schools and served with the U.S. Navy. Following his discharge, he returned to Detroit Lakes, where he attended the Detroit Lakes Area Vocational and Technical College Welding Program.
Jim married Margaret Staudacher in Detroit Lakes in 1962. During his working life he was a welder with the Fargo Foundry, American Crystal Sugar in Moorhead, Swift & Company and Hartman Hide & Fur, both in Detroit Lakes. He also worked as a carpenter and operated a hobby farm in rural Detroit Lakes.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, taking sporting trips to Canada and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Beckwith of Detroit Lakes; a son, Jeff (Mary Ann) Beckwith of Bemidji; a daughter, JoAnn (Wayne) Erickson of Rochert; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; his mother, Ann Beckwith of Detroit Lakes; and a brother, David Beckwith of Detroit Lakes.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, and also one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Wednesday.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3 at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Interment will be in Senjen Cemetery, rural Rochert.
