Roberta McDougall, 93, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, February 28, 2008 at St. Mary's Regional Health Center in Detroit Lakes.
Roberta Jones was born to Robert and Bernice (Case) Jones on Feb. 19, 1915 in Milbank, S.D. She was baptized Jan. 2, 1916 and confirmed Feb. 19, 1933 at Christ Episcopal Parish in Milbank. Roberta graduated from Milbank High School in 1933, after which she attended South Dakota State College in Brookings, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1938. She taught home economics for one year in Estaline, S.D., and for two years in Britton, S.D. Roberta married Donald McDougall on June 14, 1941 in Milbank. They lived in California, Illinois and Milbank before moving to Oakes, N.D. in 1946. They lived in Oakes until 1981. Roberta was active in the family automobile business for 35 years.
Roberta and Donald moved to Pelican Lake and in 1986, to Detroit Lakes. They moved into Lincoln Park Assisted Living in 2005. Donald died Sept. 4, 2005, and Roberta continued to reside at Lincoln Park following his death.
Roberta was very active in the Episcopal Diocese of North Dakota. She was a former president of the North Dakota Diocesan Women and attended three triennial sessions of the National Episcopal Church Women. She was also a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. While in Detroit Lakes, Roberta was active in volunteer work at St. Mary's Hospital and at the Becker County Food Pantry. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Detroit Lakes, where she was active as a lay reader, president of the Episcopal Church Women and a member of the altar guild.
Roberta will be remembered and missed by her two sons and two daughters, Robert (Carol) McDougall of Cody, Wyo., Julianne Bopp of West Fargo, Jan (Larry) Ahrens of Tulsa, Okla., and Jon McDougall of Detroit Lakes; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret Mehring of Los Osis, Calif.
Preceding Roberta in death were her husband, Donald; one brother, Robert; one sister, Helen; and one son-in-law, Jack Bopp.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 4 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, continuing one hour prior to the start of services on Wednesday at the church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 5 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Detroit Lakes.
