Robert W. Kentner I, 73, of Hastings, Neb., formerly of Bemidji, died Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Butler-Volland Chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Lorri Kentner and the Rev. Art Schakat officiating. A visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. Monday, with family present at Butler-Volland Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date.
He was born Jan. 24, 1936, to William and Beatrice (Logan) Kentner in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Grandview Heights High School in Columbus and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in music education from Bemidji State University in 1979. He served in the U.S. Navy from Oct. 19, 1954-Oct. 17, 1958, and Oct. 23, 1961-June 1, 1977, and was a U.S. Navy musician. He married Verna Sedlak June 13, 1959 in Marblehead, Ohio. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Grandview, Mo., NRA, American Banjo Fraternity and The Hymn Society. He moved from Grandview to Hastings in 2008.
He was survived by his sons, Robert W. (Lorri) Kentner II of Davenport, Neb., Clarence (Perri) Kentner of Oxford, Conn., John (Theresa) Kentner of Monticello, Minn., and Joseph (Robie) Kentspeth of Austin, Texas; two grandchildren; brothers, David (Genny) Kentner of Columbus, Ohio, and Donald (Jackie) Kentner of Wayne, N.J.; sister, Virginia (Al) Belfiglio of Fairfield, N.J.; a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law.
