Robert Roy Crabtree
Robert Roy Crabtree, 70, of Lower Rice Lake, Minn., died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at North Country Regional Hospital, in Bemidji.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Bagley with Mardy Schermerhorn officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Alida Cemetery in Alida, Minn. Military rites will be accorded by Irvin Blix American Legion Post No. 16 of Bagley.
He was born May 10, 1938, to Lester and Doris Crabtree in Missoula, Mont. He attended Buffalo High School and was involved in many activities, such as basketball, baseball, and track. He graduated salutatorian of his class in 1958. In 1959, he enlisted in the military, and was proud of the fact that a part of his service was playing basketball.
On Oct. 29, 1959, he married Shirley Osburnsen, and they resided in Lewistown, Mont., until moving to Bagley in 1967. He worked as a parts man, construction worker and farmer. He drove school bus for 28 years, and for one summer he went on the road with his son and hauled railroad ties.
Even after retirement he continued to drive bus for activities. In his early years, he helped manage and coach independent basketball in Lewiston. He enjoyed listening to and watching ball games and attended all of his grandchildren's activities. He also enjoyed playing cards at the Great Northern.
He is survived by wife of Bagley; daughter, Kim (Larry) Christensen of Park Rapids; sons, Randy (Kay) Crabtree of Bagley and Russell (Jennifer) Crabtree of Roseau, Minn.; seven grandchildren; brothers, George, Dan and Roger, all of Montana; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Jodi Dean; a sister, Edith Miller; and a brother, Charles.
