Robert Peter "Bob" Rugroden, 82, of Menahga, Minn., formerly of the Park Rapids area, died on Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church in Park Rapids with Rev. James Neubauer and Rev. Matthew Thompson officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. The Jones-Pearson Funeral Home of Park Rapids assisted the family with arrangements. Military honors will be provided by the Park Rapids All Veterans Burial Team. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Park Rapids. Following services a luncheon will be held at the church for all to attend.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James Rugroden, David Rugroden, Larry Conner, John Scott, Thomas Aldrich and Jeff Crist.

He was born on April 12, 1924, to Oscar and Ida (Lehrke) Rugroden, in Henrietta Township, Hubbard County, Minn. He attended school in Nevis, graduating with the class of 1942. On May 20, 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country during World War II in the European and later the Middle Eastern Theatres of war. He later transferred to the Air Force Reserve where he served until his honorable discharge after 23 years of service. On June 15, 1946, he married Marjorie Gregerson at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. They had six children.

Over the years, they entered into numerous business ventures including owning and operating the Osage Café, farming, owning and operating auto parts stores and the Friendly Acres Resort on Two Inlets Lake. In 1980, they retired to Park Rapids. Later, they moved to Menahga where they lived at the Woodside Manor and Green Pine Acres.

He was an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed making doll cribs and benches for his grandchildren. He loved the outdoors and could be found fishing for crappies on warm summer evenings and looked forward to hunting for a trophy buck each fall. He was a founding member of the Headwaters Amateur Radio Club and was active for 41 years. He was a member of the Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post No. 212 in Park Rapids and a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. He also had his private pilot's license. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Jim (Kathy) Rugroden of Fargo, N.D., Nancy (John) Scott of Fargo, Linda (Larry) Conner of Cass Lake, Dave (Susan) Rugroden of Park Rapids, Carol Thumma of Fargo and Dr. Jayne (Tom) Aldrich of Gardner, N.D.; 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Esther Miller of The Villages, Fla.; brothers, Kenneth (Mary) Rugroden of Crosby, Minn. and Curtis (Verna) Rugroden of Philo, Ill.; two sisters-in-law; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Herb Sitz, Ovid Sitz, Arthur Sitz and Roger Rugroden; and sisters, Judith Rugroden-Heckel and Dorothea Sitz.
