Authorities identify man who died in fiery crash on Interstate 29 south of Grand Forks

Robert James Hines, 76, of Cass Lake, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at his home.

A visitation will be held for friends and family from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at the Dennis Funeral Home in Walker. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, at a future date.

He was born June 2, 1932, to Bernadine and William Hines in Peoria, Ill. He attended school in Illinois and Minnesota, graduating from Cass Lake High School in 1950. Following high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served from July 1952 to June 1961.

He met Betty Hotel while stationed in Yuma, Ariz. They married in 1955 and lived in Yuma, Fairfield, Calif., and Coeurd'Alene, Idaho. They had three children. After Betty died in 1971, he married Lynette Sharp, and they had three children. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and was a member of the VFW Post 889. He worked as a boat mechanic in various marinas in the Coeur d'Alene area, worked at Fiberform and Frank Gurney Inc. in Spokane, Wash., before retiring and moving to Cass Lake.

He is survived by his children with Betty; Bob (Shelley) Hines of Arlington, Wash., Roberta (David) Marsolek of Cass Lake, and Chuck (Judy) Hines of Spokane and children with Lynette, Dan Hines of Hayden, Idaho, Heather Larson of Hayden and David Hines of Coeur d'Alene; 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
