Robert Davids Jr., 82, of Gonvick, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Clearwater Memorial Hospital in Bagley.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Cease Family Funeral Home in Bagley. Burial will be in Samhold Lutheran Cemetery in Gonvick.

Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.

He was born March 1, 1927, to Robert and Anna (Hoper) Davids at the Summit Farm in Bagley. He moved to Williams, Minn., as a young child and attended school there. When he was a freshman, he was on the high school hockey team that won the Regional Championship. He graduated from the School of Agriculture in Crookston, Minn. He entered the U.S. Navy and was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Minneapolis where he attended the University of Minnesota studying veterinary science. He met Audrey Lind in the choir at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. They were married April 22, 1950, in Minneapolis. They lived in Crystal, Minn., where he worked at the Co-Op.

He fulfilled his lifelong dream when he and his wife bought land north of Gonvick in 1952 where they ranched. He worked at the U.S. Postal Service as a Rural Letter Carrier for the Gonvick, Trail and Gully areas. He finished his 36-year career for the Postal Service as post master for the Gully/Trail Post Office.

He served with the Gideons and his lay ministry. He served on the Gonvick School Board for several years, he was a Boy Scout leader in Gonvick and was active at the Samhold Lutheran Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and was on the Church Council. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved horses.

He is survived by his wife Gonvick; daughters, Laura Davids of Apple Valley, Minn., Amy Davids of Minnetonka, Minn., and Elizabeth (Steven) Lee of Lonsdale, Minn.; sons, Daniel (Susan) Davids of Evansville, Minn., and James Davids of Apple Valley; sister, Helen (Don) West of Ashland, Wis., and Rita (Rey) Erickson of Eagan, Minn.; brother, Charles Davids of South Dakota; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law.
