Robert "Bones" Hirt, age 74, of Bemidji, Minn. died Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at the VA Hospital, in Minneapolis, MN.

Memorial Services will be11:00 AM, Monday, March 23, 2009 at St. Philips Catholic Church, Bemidji, Minn., with Fr. Antony Fernando officiating. A time to share will be 5-7 PM Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, Minn. and one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, Minn.

Honorary bearers will be: Jim Kropelin, Scott Lauderbaugh, Marc Fenske, Jason Lindom, Luke Glime, Tom Moran, Pat "Tiger" Stout, Don "Skinny" Mohler, Zeb Degerman, Duke Stephen, Max Hirt, Dale Lauderbaugh, Ray Spindler and Danny Bahr.

Robert Earl Hirt was born October 27, 1934 in Bemidji, Minn., to Floyd and Anna Mae (Bagsley) Hirt. He grew up in Bemidji, Minn. and attended St. Philips Catholic School and Bemidji High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959. After his discharge he returned to Bemidji and worked for his dad, Floyd, in the trucking business. On June 11, 1960 he married Joan Fenske in Bemidji. In the early 1960's he owned and operated Uncle Tom's Tavern in Nebish. He purchased the trucking business from his dad in the 1970's, which he owned and operated until his retirement in May of 2000, at which time he sold Hirt Trucking to his son, Jim. He enjoyed walleye fishing, hunting, curling, playing pool and taught all of his children his secrets of success. Robert and Joan took 3 trips to Vegas for pool tournaments. He loved his grandchildren to visit with and was very proud of all their sport activities. He was a lifelong member of the Elks Club, Moose Club and Eagles. In nice weather he motored around up and down the road with his dog pal. He enjoyed spending time with his kids, teaching them hunting and fishing. With his boys growing up he enjoyed spending time with them in the trucking business.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Hirt of Bemidji; 3 sons, Bob (Peggy) Hirt of Bemidji, Mike (Sheila) Hirt of Bemidji and Jim (Tracy) Hirt of Bemidji; 1 daughter, Jennifer (Dane) Jones of Bemidji; 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson; 1 brother, Donovan (Marge) Hirt of Bemidji; sister, Ann (Dan) Gray of Bemidji.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd & Anna Mae Hirt; brother, James "Tipper" Hirt; daughter, Lynn Marie Hirt.
