Robert Berg, 70, Detroit Lakes, passed away Saturday April 4, 2009, in Innovis Health in Fargo, N.D.
Robert was born Nov. 5, 1938, to Arnold and Anna (Fraisl) Berg in Osakis, Minn. He graduated from Osakis High School in 1957. Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1957 and received an honorable discharge in 1964. On June 15, 1960, he married Rita Roeckel. They moved to Alexandria, where he was employed by National Food Stores. In 1965, he moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area as manager of the National Food Store. He continued for many years to be associated with the grocery business. In 1975, he and his family relocated to West Fargo, where he was employed with Federal Beef. He was forced to take an early retirement due to serious health complications, which resulted in a double lung transplant at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis on Thanksgiving Day 2001. His remaining years were spent in Detroit Lakes where he enjoyed hunting, gardening, bird watching, wood working, but most of all, he enjoyed the quality time he spent with his family and his special card friends.
He is survived by his friend/former wife Rita Berg, West Fargo; daughter Karin (Berg) Roquette and friend Dave Marchus, West Fargo; three sons, Kevin Berg (Dawn), Kyle Berg (Connie), West Fargo, and Keith Berg (Karman Stockford), Glyndon; special friend Doris Jacobson, Detroit Lakes; two sisters, Evangeline (Keith) Curtis, Pine City, Minn., Elaine Grinstead, Stillwater, Minn.; two brothers Leon (Pam) Berg, Marksville, Minn., Dennis Berg, Eagle Bend, Minn.; seven grand-children and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.
Funeral services are Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at 11 a.m. in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes.
Visitation is Tuesday April 7, 2009, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. in Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Burial is in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
