The Corps’ six reservoirs – Leech Lake near Federal Dam,; Winnibigoshish Lake near Deer River; Pokegama Lake near Grand Rapids; Big Sandy Lake near McGregor; Cross Lake near Crosslake; and Gull Lake near Brainerd – all were part of the drawdown.

The Corps manages the reservoirs to reduce the flood risk in Aitkin, according to a news release issued Thursday by the Corps.

Once the melt begins, the Corps, along with the National Weather Service, monitors the river conditions, ice jams and weather conditions, including rainfall predictions, manage flood risks.
