Red Lake Toy Drive Challenge proved successful

RED LAKE – The Red Lake Nation implemented a Toy Drive Challenge this holiday season. The Red Lake Accounting Department won the challenge by raising $2,549.

The Red Lake Accounting Department was the winner of the 2012 Toy Drive Challenge.

The department raised funds by having a raffle drawing, hosting a steak dinner and through staff donations.

Other participants included The Red Lake Hospital with $2,050; the Red Lake Department of Natural Resources with $1,327; The Elderly Maintenance Program with $795; the Red Lake Middle School with $345; and Ponemah Student Council with $280 and several donated toys. Barbara Beaulieu, secretary to the tribal treasurer, said participants and volunteers for helping raise a total of $7,347 for the children of Red Lake.

Additionally, more than 35 off-reservation businesses donated nearly $30,343 for the event. About 2,000 children in Ponemah, Redby, Red Lake and Little Rock communities received gifts this holiday season.
