Red Lake man pleads guilty to 2011 assault against woman
MINNEAPOLIS – A 25-year-old Red Lake man pleaded guilty Thursday to assaulting a woman and causing serious injuries.
Michael James Jourdain pleaded guilty during a hearing in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis.
In a plea agreement, Jourdain admitted he assaulted a woman Sept. 18, 2011, on the Red Lake Indian Reservation by kicking her repeatedly with his feet.
A news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office said the woman was taken to a hospital because she was coughing up blood and suffered a fractured rib.
Jourdain faces up to 10 years in federal prison.
U.S. District Judge Donovan W. Frank will determine his sentence at a future hearing, not yet scheduled.
This case is the result of an investigation by the FBI and the Red Lake Tribal Police Department.
