Raymond Richard Foley, 71, of Bemidji, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at Osborne County Memorial Hospital in Osborne, Kan.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Philip's Catholic Church in Bemidji with the Rev. Vincent Miller officiating. A memorial visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji. Burial will follow cremation in Fairview Cemetery in Kelliher.
He was born July 27, 1937, to William and Alma (Perras) Foley in Kelliher. He was raised and educated in the area, graduating from Kelliher High School. He graduated from the University of Minnesota. He then served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Alaska and Ohio. He married Mary Legner on Nov. 28, 1964, in Fairborn, Ohio. He was a contracted Unisys systems analyst consultant for the U. S. Naval Defense System. He spent the last 10 years at Hill Air Force Base in Clearfield, Utah, where he retired. They moved to Bemidji in May 2008. He was very active in leadership with the Boy Scouts of America and the Knights of Columbus. He has enjoyed flying most of his life. He built two airplanes, one for himself and one for his son.
He is survived by his wife, of Bemidji; sons, John (Melissa) Foley of Cortland, N.Y., Richard (Kathelene) Foley of Raleigh-Durham, N.C., Philip Foley of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Patrick Foley of Arlington, Va., and Gerald (Sandy) Foley of Gilbert, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; brothers, William Foley of Glastonbury, Conn., Gerald Foley of Minneapolis, Michael (JoAnn) Foley of Sauk Centre, Minn., and Alan (Jane) Foley of Bemidji; sisters, Mary Kennedy of Minneapolis, Patricia (John) Ruffing of Maple Grove, Minn., and Beverly (Houston) Van Loh of Gillette, Wyo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Larry Foley of Wadena, Minn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
