Rain cancels Bemidji's meet at Thief River Falls

THIEF RIVER FALLS – Bemidji’s attempt to win its eighth straight girls tennis dual victory to open the season will have to wait a while longer as Thursday’s meet at Thief River Falls was a weather victim.

The Lumberjacks will try to capture that eighth victory Saturday when they battle Fergus Falls at 10 a.m. and Moorhead at 11:30 a.m. in Fergus Falls.

BHS made Thursday’s trip to Thief River Falls and the teams were warming for the matches when it began to drizzle. The light rain quickly turned into a downpour and the teams waited for the storm system to pass.

Eventually the rain stopped and officials, hoping to still get the matches in, spent 90 minutes drying the courts.

“We started to warm up again and then the drizzle returned,” said Bemidji coach Mark Fodness. “And before long it poured.”

The second outburst was enough to call off the action and Bemidji headed home.

“We’d like to reschedule but we’re not sure if we will be able to find a date,” Fodness said.

The regular season is quickly coming to a close. Next week finds BHS visiting Grand Rapids on Wednesday and on Oct. 2 the Jacks will face Crookston at Grand Forks and then stop at East Grand Forks for the final regular-season dual of the campaign.

The section tournament will begin Oct. 5.
