Racing is in Erickson's blood
BEMIDJI - Racing has been a part of Doyle Erickson's life for the past 17 years.
"It's in my blood. I love the adrenaline rush when the green flag drops," the 42-year-old self-employed logger said. "And when you win a big feature race, I can't describe the feeling."
Competing in the Wissota Midwest Modified division, Erickson races an S-P Chassis built by fellow racer Ricky Jacobson.
Success has followed Erickson on the track as he has won more than 63 features, including track championships in Street Stocks and Super Stocks. In 2002 he was crowned the NOPA national champion in Super Stocks. He was also named National Rookie of the Year in the Late Model division and won a feature that year.
Erickson can be seen racing at Bemidji Speedway on Sunday nights. He also races at Grand Forks, Ada and Fergus Falls speedways.
He will be among the racers at this Sunday's Bemidji Speedway card.
His crew consists of Todd, Shannon, his son Blake and his daughter Brooke.
"I want to thank my wife (Joni) for letting me race," Erickson said. "It makes it much more fun when she doesn't contest me doing this."
