Public invited to Bemidji Blast tourney
BEMIDJI - Bemidji Youth Soccer is sponsoring the 24-team "Bemidji Blast" today and Sunday at the fields just west of Bemidji Middle School.
The teams are divided into four different age brackets, including a 10-team adult division. The youth games will be played today beginning at 9 a.m., while the adult teams will hit the fields at 11 a.m. Sunday.
The public is welcome to attend and there will be no admission charge.
"This tournament is a major fundraiser for Bemidji Youth Soccer," said Bemidji High School varsity boys coach Rick Toward, who is active in the community's youth programs.
The games consist of 6-on-6 play (five forwards and a goalie) and the fields will be shortened. Each half will be 18 minute and the teams are guaranteed at least three games.
"With this format everybody on the fields is constantly playing the ball," Toward said.
