BEMIDJI – City officials are seeking public input on the future of Algoma Park.

The Parks and Trails Commission will hold a meeting about the park at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Public Works Building.
The park, at 3502 Minnesota Ave. W., was recently annexed into the city from Northern Township. The city has $30,000 budgeted for improvements there in 2013, said Parks and Recreation Director Marcia Larson.
“It’s our philosophy that you build the parks for the people that use them,” Larson said. “I think this meeting is important because we want to know how that neighborhood…or the community in general has utilized that park and then what they would like to see in the future.”
Larson said a master plan will be developed with some public input.
The seven-acre park has fallen into some disrepair, Larson said. Broken benches and playground equipment have already been taken out, she added.
“I’d really like to see the public involved in Algoma Park,” said City Councilor and Parks and Trails Commission member Greg Negard at Monday’s city council meeting.
