“It’s something that is different for Bemidji, I’ve been here for 20 years, it’s not something we’ve ever done,” Bemidji Theatre manager Duane Black said. “The theater is always looking for other venues to bring people in and open up to more of the art films.”

Jasmine Reid, producer of the psychological thriller, said it started as a studio project. Due to budgeting and financing, the film moved to Michigan, with Caspian Tredwell-Owen signing on as the writer/director.

“They didn’t have the full $12 million they needed to shoot in Michigan. So Caspian decided to, instead of letting the studio shelve the project, to finance it himself,” Reid said. “He had a buddy in Minneapolis who used to work for Warner Brothers, and he originally came up to shoot a couple of scenes to do a director’s reel, not do the entire thing.

“Once he got the actors together and started getting some footage he realized he had to finish it,” she added.

The cast of the film are from Minnesota. It features Gabriele Angieri, Joey Pollari (MTV’s “Inbetweeners”) and Emily Fradenburgh.

“This film was filmed here in Minnesota, it’s acted by Minnesota actors,” Black said. “The gentleman who does our booking set this all up in a couple of different towns throughout Minnesota.”

“Profile of a Killer” did well in Grand Forks, N.D. CEC Theatres, which owns the Bemidji Theatre, decided to bring it to the area.

“It’s just one of those things that came with the advent of digital and makes it possible to play this style of film,” Black said.

The film is a psychological thriller about a retired FBI profiler who is called in on a case – and finds himself at the mercy of a teenage killer’s murderous game, according to its IMDB Web page.

“As far as the social media platforms, it’s so much harder these days to differentiate yourself from the crowd and to get that 10 seconds of glory,” Reid said. “So I think that the story is probably the biggest part in that is resonates with everybody. It gives you something to think about.”

Emily Fradenburgh, who plays FBI Agent Rachel Cade, and Dustin Booth, who plays Detective Mike Bianchi, will be here for the event, Reid said.
