PrimeTime | Volunteers are special
The Paul Bunyan Senior Activity Center has many events and needs volunteers who are flexible with their time and are eager to work. Dick Robinson is one of those volunteers.
Dick volunteers to help with the Senior Nutrition Site and as the supervisor of our monthly Pancake Breakfast. He will take on any job when he is needed. He also has been on our board of directors for almost a year. For any event, he will help with setting up, moving tables, serving and cleaning up.
He also has a good sense of humor, which makes him fun to work with and an important part of creating fellowship between the volunteers.
When a few other volunteers who work with Dick found out about the opportunity to nominate a special volunteer for the Someone Special Award, they overwhelmingly voted for Dick. They all thought that he was a hard worker and deserved the award. For that reason, it was my pleasure to present the Someone Special Award to Dick Robinson on July 12, the same day as our 50th anniversary.
Thank you, Dick, for all of your hard work. I would also like to thank all of our special volunteers for the efforts, time and talents they offer the Senior Center.
Thank you to United Way, Ken K. Thompson, Bemidji Pioneer and KB101 Continuous Country for making it possible to recognize "Someone Special."
And thank you to those who celebrated our 50th anniversary with us. We had a beautiful ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Dave Larson. Judy Tobin, committee member, presented him with the "Key to the Senior Center."
It was a special and heart-warming occasion on a beautiful sunny day.
We will be having a rummage sale, and all proceeds will benefit the Senior Center. If you have some gently used "stuff" that you would like to donate to benefit the Senior Center, you can drop it off at the front desk, Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. You can also drop it off at the Eckles Community Center from 1-3 p.m. Aug. 13, 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 14 or 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 15.
We will accept donations until Aug. 15. However, we cannot accept large appliances, microwaves, animals, computers or stained, torn or broken items.
If you need transportation for your donation, please contact us at 751-8836. You can also receive a receipt for your donation for tax purposes. Thank you for your generosity.
The rummage sale will be Aug. 16 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Aug. 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Eckles Community Center. To get there, drive west on U.S. Highway 2 from Bemidji, then north 4½ miles on County Road 9. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
