Prime Time/Northwoods Caregivers offers caregiving class
Northwoods Caregivers is proud to offer a Powerful Tools for Caregivers class this summer - a program that was developed by Legacy Caregiver Services in Portland, Oregon after three years of pilot testing, refinement and evaluative research.
The program has been going strong for more than 10 years now and currently has more than 1,400 Class Leaders trained in 30 states. Since the program's inception, Powerful Tools for Caregivers has reached more than 60,000 caregivers.
PTC was developed due to various research studies that found high rates of depression and anxiety among caregivers as well as increased vulnerability to health problems.
Caregivers frequently neglect their own personal, enjoyable activities and often feel they have no control over events. That feeling of powerlessness has a significant negative impact on caregivers' physical and emotional health.
This 6-week course has been shown to have a positive impact on caregiver health for a diverse group of caregivers - no matter who they are caring for or what stage they are in, in their caregiving role.
The Powerful Tools class will help caregivers develop a wealth of self-care tools to: reduce personal stress; change negative self-talk; communicate their needs to family members and healthcare/ service providers; communicate more effectively in challenging situations; recognize the messages in their emotions, deal with difficult feelings; and make tough caregiving decisions. Class participants also receive a copy of The Caregiver Helpbook (2nd ed.), developed specifically for the class.
For more information or to register for this class by July 11, please contact Missy at 333-8266 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Classes will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays, July 18-Aug. 22, at the Bemidji Public Library.
There is a $25 fee for the class; however, scholarships are available on a first come/first serve basis. Join us and learn how to THRIVE as a caregiver...not just survive.
