Chiropractic Sport and Spinal Rehab will conduct a fitness challenge to promote a healthy lifestyle for area residents, regardless of current physical condition or expertise.
The Power of 77: Transformation 2010 is limited to 77 people and will begin with a kickoff dinner and program on Feb. 16, Fat Tuesday before Mardi Gras. For 11 weeks, participants will earn points in five different ways during the competition, which has cash prizes of $700 for first place, $500 for second place, and $300 for third place.
"This is different than other physical challenges, since individuals in good shape or those who are wanting to get into better shape have the same opportunities to earn points in several categories. And we're limiting participation to 77 so every person has maximum motivation to succeed," said Dr. Lyle Erickson, chiropractor at Sport and Spinal Rehab. "We want to help individuals achieve their health goals regardless of their current physical condition."
As a result, points can be earned by exercising regularly; attending weekly seminars to enhance health and wellness; participating in motivational or inspirational activities; losing weight; and taking a life satisfaction survey. Points are awarded in each category, with the higher point totals winning cash and other prizes.
An entry fee of $77 will be assessed for the participants with proceeds beyond cost donated to Shifting Gears, a local nonprofit organization that repairs bicycles and donates them to individuals in need. Participants will receive a fitness bag with free items and coupons from area businesses. In addition to cash awards, other high finishers will be eligible for prizes, and those earning 700 points from the different categories will be eligible for a $500 drawing.
The competition will conclude May 6 with a banquet planned for mid-May.
