Power of 77 promotes mental, physical wellness; annual program will begin Tuesday
Chiropractic Sport and Spinal Rehab will kick off its annual program promoting a healthy lifestyle with a presentation on "Jump Start Your Transformation" at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 6 p.m. at the clinic, located at 4228 Power Drive N.W. in the Bemidji Technology Park.
The presentation is the first activity in the Power of 77: Transformation 2011 contest to develop mental and physical wellness for area residents, regardless of current condition or expertise. Limited to 77 people, the contest will run for 11 weeks, with registrants earning points by attending weekly seminars, exercising regularly, spending one hour per week on inspirational or motivational activities, and participating in other events.
The Power of 77 is co-sponsored by MedSave Family Pharmacy and Wellness Center, and Choice Therapy, a physical and occupational therapy clinic in Bemidji.
The participant who earns the most points during the competition will earn $700, with the next five receiving $100 each. The competition is limited to 77 registrants and the cost is $77 per person. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Shifting Gears, a local nonprofit that repairs bikes and donates them to people in need.
"This challenge isn't dependent on a person's physical condition, because it embraces a holistic approach where conditioning is just one facet," said Dr. Lyle Erickson, chiropractic physician at Sport and Spinal Rehab. "Since points can be earned in several different ways, an individual in poor shape has the same opportunities to earn points. We want everyone to become motivated to succeed and achieve their health goals regardless of current physical condition."
One important facet of the Power of 77 is the weekly seminars, held Tuesdays at 6 p.m. at Sport and Spinal Rehab. Scheduled topics include fitness for life, understanding chronic pain, finding financial peace, sleeping well, healthy eating, core stability and balance, easy meal planning, naturopathy, and developing a 100-year lifestyle.
A closing ceremony will be held May 3.
