Ponemah man stabbed in knife fight; in critical condition
Bemidji Police Chief Gerald W. Johnson reported Friday afternoon that at approximately 4:50 a.m. Friday Bemidji Police officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Ridgeway Avenue Northwest where there was a report of a fight involving a number of individuals who were armed.
The original report indicated the people involved were armed with glass bottles and possibly knives. Upon arrival officers found one individual lying face down on Ridgeway Avenue. A number of other individuals fled the scene.
The victim, a 25-year-old man from Ponemah lying in the roadway, was later transported to North Country Regional Hospital and placed in critical condition with numerous knife-type injuries to his body.
Officers were able to locate five individuals who had been involved in the fight. One suspect, a Bemidji resident, was arrested in the assault and one was arrested on a non related warrant.
At this time Bemidji Police Department is following up on processing the crime scene, vehicles involved and completing the investigation and interviewing parties involved.
