Officers were called to the Red Roof Inn about 1:10 a.m. Friday. Police say the dispatcher who took the 911 call could hear a struggle in the background and the mention of a weapon.

Responding officers say they found 12 people in one of the rooms, at least one person had been assaulted and others were being held against their will. Woodbury Police Chief Lee Vague says there was obvious criminal activity taking place, but he declined to be specific.

Authorities say at one point, a shot was fired and three officers returned gunfire, striking one man.

Washington County SWAT team members arrested one man about 5 a.m. Authorities say a number of weapons were recovered from the motel room.
