"American Kids" with the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra will begin at 3 p.m. today in the Bemidji High School auditorium. Guest artist, cellist Nicholas Hardie will be performing Robert Schumann's "Cello Concerto in A minor." A group of area string students will join the BSO on stage for a performance of Gustav Holst's "St. Paul Suite." The program will conclude with "Academic Festival Overture" by Johannes Brahms, all pieces under the direction of Beverly Everett. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for college students with a valid ID. Students grades K- 12 are free.
Timberline with John Essig, Kari Munson and Dave Sand will be playing from 2-6 p.m. today at the Eagles Club, 1270 Neilson Ave. SE.
Common Ground is a program which explores the creative process and cultural events in our region. On this week's episode, DuWayne Schwindt will show the many details of intarsia art (decorative inlay using wood). Steve Vollmer, a harness and saddle maker, will show how he uses leather to create a wide range of functional and stylish harnesses for horses. John Norman will show how he turns forms with lustrous finishes from wood. The program airs at 7 p.m. Thursday and will be rebroadcast at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, 6 p.m. Sunday and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Roy C. Booth and R. Thomas Riley will hold a book signing and reception for "Diaphanous" and "The Flesh of Fallen Angels" from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Roy's Comics and Games, 210 3rd St. N.W.
American Christian Contemporary music artist Chris Tomlin will be performing at 7 p.m. March 15 at the Sanford Center. Tickets are on sale now at the Sanford Box Office (218) 441-4031 and prices are $22 each or $18 each for groups of 15 or more.
Monroe Crossing with opening act, Bemidji's own Caleigh, a Celtic group, will perform at 7:30 p.m. March 17 at the historic Chief Theater, 314 Beltrami Ave. NW. Home Free, an a capella choir, will be performing at the final performance of the 2011-12 competition shows of Vocalmotive and La Voce Bello. The concert will be at 7 p.m. March 23, which will also feature an exhibition of the middle school group Pizzaz, and 7 p.m. March 24, which features the middle school group JIVE joining the program. Call for Artists for the First City of the Arts Studio Cruise 2012 October 19-21. Artists within a 40-mile radius of Bemidji or a guest artist at a qualifying host studio may apply for this juried event. Headwaters School of Music and the Arts, 519 Minnesota Ave., is hosting an exhibit of a body of works by the Artists of Studio 10; an eclectic mix of acrylics, oils, watercolors and mixed media. The exhibit is open during regular HSMA business hours.
Neilson Place, 1000 Anne St. NW, is hosting an exhibit of work by Kathy Gustafson and Pat Shough entitled "Flora and Fauna." Neilson Place is open for viewers until 8 p.m. daily.
Wild Hare Bistro and Coffeehouse, 523 Minnesota Ave NW, has on display the work of local artist Sarah Nordlund and her vibrant acrylic paintings. The bistro is closed on Sunday.
Auditions for "Paul Bunyan the Musical" from fourth grade high school students will be from 4:30-7 p.m., March 20-21 at the Wild Rose Theater. Performances will be Aug. 3-5 and 9-11.
