Bemidji Chorale Mother's Day Concert will begin at 7 tonight in the Beaux Arts Ballroom on the campus of Bemidji State University.
Pianist Wayne Hoff will accompany the chorale and some of the featured singers include Eric Benson, Jim Dougherty, Josh Gunderson, Carla Norris Raynbird, Sharon Shuster, Sutton Stewart and Maddy Lawrence.
To a lot of Bemidjians, it wouldn't be Mother's Day without the annual Bemidji Chorale concert and ice cream social and this concert celebrates 33 consecutive years. Open to the public at no charge, the chorale members are keeping a lot of the surprises to themselves and conductor Pat Mason's theme is "Reflection, Possibility and Whimsey."
A free will offering will be accepted after the concert.
Bemidji Community Theater Comedy "Kiss or Make Up," by Jack Sharkey will begin at 1 p.m. today in the Wild Rose Theater, 501 Bemidji Ave. N.
After two family friendly shows, the actors and director Vicki Stenerson turned their efforts toward an adult comedy about a career woman who invented a husband and daughter because she did not want to be known as single. But the IRS wants to know why her husband has not paid taxes for years, she falls in love with a city planner while designing the zoo's new crocodile house and claims now to be a widow and confusion reigns.
With mistaken and made-up identities, the troupe of veteran actors including Julie Kaiser, Joel Ward, Kevin Cease, Carolyn Towler, and some up-and-coming BCT regulars (Katie Carpenter, Derrick Houle and Matt Poulis) promise to keep the audience laughing.
The final performance will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for students under 18 and will be sold at the door starting one hour before curtain times.
The Okee Dokee Brothers will be performing at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Headwaters School of Music and the Arts, 519 Minnesota Ave. NW. Children and parents are welcome to this free Bemidji Public Library event where the Okee Dokee's will show the audience how to discover, imagine and create through music.
Classical Concert by celebrated Norwegian pianist Knut Eric Jensen will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Lutheran Church, 2508 Washington Ave. SE. Tickets for the concert are $10 each and may be purchased at the door or at the First National Bank, main branch in Bemidji.
Phillips, Craig and Dean, a contemporary Christian vocal trio, will be performing in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Sanford Center. A trio of three pastors with a back-up band will sing praise and worship contemporary Christian music. Tickets are available at the Ford Pickup windows located at the Center or at the new Ticketmaster outlets in both Lueken's Village Foods locations.
Grace Garland will host a watercolor class from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday at Gracie's Woodsy Boutique on U.S. Highway 2, six miles west of Bemidji. Participants will complete and frame an 11-by-14-inch watercolor painting of daisies along a wooden fence. The cost of the class is $40 and call 759-2952 to register.
The annual Blackduck Student Art Show will be on display May 19 through 26 at the Tin Pan gALLErY of the Blackduck History Center, Main and Margaret Avenues. An Open House is planned from 4-6:30 p.m. May 23. The public is invited to attend.
