Pioneer Previews: Bagley hosts Art in the Park on Saturday

The community of Bagley, Minn., will come together Saturday, and hopefully bring in some new friends, as it hosts the annual Bagley Art in the Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hand-crafted art products from nearly 40 vendors will be available, organizers said.

Sonny Johnson, singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Bemidji, will be performing from noon until 2:30 p.m. Activities for children will be available, as will food vendors from nonprofit organizations.

Here’s a look at some other notable events in and around the area this week.

Wednesday

-- Bemidji Area Church Musicians will continue the Summer Recital Series with Joseph Henry, organist and pianist noon at St. Philip’s Catholic Church. A free will offering will be received for the concert and a lunch will follow.

--- Paul Bunyan Playhouse presents "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" at 8 p.m. Tickets are $22 for adults, $10 for students and $20 each for groups of 10 or more.

Thursday

-- The Color Pharmacy will play at 2nd Street Stage 6 to 8 p.m. in Park Rapids. The event is free with a beer garden and family activities.

Friday

-- Northern Light Opera Company presents "You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown" at 7:30 p.m. at Armory Square, Highway 71 and 2nd St., downtown Park Rapids.

Sunday

-- The 3rd Annual Bite of Park Rapids Food & Art Fair is set to begin 9 a.m. The fair will have live music, face painting, caricatures, bouncing houses and a juried art fair. Food booths will open at 11 a.m. and last until 4 p.m.

-- A public reading with Camille Dungy will be held 7:30 p.m. in the lower Hobson Memorial Union at BSU. The readings will continue with a new reader each day through July 18.

Area Exhibits

-- Neilson Place presents a photography display of "Through Our Eyes" by Aynsley Kluchnik and Abby Szarkowski July through October.

-- Beltrami County History Center will feature artwork from Gallery North and an exhibit in their main hall: "Trails Through Time." It will showcase county history from the mid-20th century. The Beltrami County History Center is open noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

-- The Bemidji Community Art Center presents an exhibit of oil paintings, watercolors and sculpture by John Lembi with his presentation of "Childs Play."

The center is open noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

--The Blackduck Area History and Art Center, located at Main and Margaret streets, is showcasing a picture display, "60 years ago, Funkley goes to New York," through July 13th.

--"Summer Art Potpourri" in the Tin Pan gALLEry is displaying work by a variety of artists, some new to the History and Art Center. Summer hours are 1–4 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays through Aug. 31. Visits by special appointment may be scheduled by calling 835-4478 or 835-8210.

--Blank Canvas Gallery and Education Center at 311 S. Main Ave, Park Rapids, has an exhibit of all participating artists.
