Pioneer Editorial: Cheers and Jeers
Jeer: Shooting pets cruel, criminal
We're dumbfounded as to why anyone would shoot someone's family pet. Twice this month, people in the Cass Lake area reported to law enforcement that someone had shot their dogs while they played in the yard. Not only cruel, it is dangerous and criminal.
Cheer: Viable air service
Air service will continue at the Bemidji Regional Airport after SkyWest announced it would provide daily flights to Minneapolis/St. Paul. A Delta partner, commercial air service is important to the viability of business and leisure in the area.
Cheer: Tribal connection
Four new radio stations will serve American Indian audiences, including KOBJ 90.1 FM in Cass Lake. The stations will provide music and information to tribal members. In addition, the stations all plan to highlight traditional customs and Ojibwe language.
Jeer: Unhealthy politics
In a game of political grandstanding, Sen. David Hann, R-Eden Prairie, blocked spending of $60 million of federal health program money in the state. Hann claims to want more information and to scrutinize federal grants, but his actions hurt Minnesotans. None of the programs would require state money.
