Beltrami County deputies and Bemidji Police officers cited 44 unbelted motorists during the May 18-31 Click It or Ticket campaign. Those folks, and others who slipped through the campaign network, are the ones most likely to be killed or seriously injured in case of a vehicle crash. Considering that 12 people in Beltrami County died in vehicle accidents in the last three years, with more than half of them unbelted, anyone who goes without a seatbelt shows no sense. It is also estimated that the economic impact to everyone in the county in the last three years is more than $16 million. Now, the seatbelt law becomes more stringent with mandatory seat belt use.
