Peterson wins two National Special Olympics titles
Becca Peterson of Bemidji recently competed in four aquatic events at the National Special Olympic Games in Lincoln, Neb. She won two of the races, placed fourth in another and was a member of Minnesota's 4x25 free relay unit which was second in a heat of three teams.
Based on a qualifying time and results from a preliminary race, competitors were placed in heats with swimmers who had similar times.
The field for each event final ranged from two to eight and the winners of those races were declared national champions.
Peterson won her final in the 100 free with a time of 1:47.29. She also won her 200 free final with a time of 4:22.56.
In the 100 backstroke Peterson finished fourth with a time of 2:04.33. The 4x25 free relay squad finished second to Indiana with a time of 1:38.99.
