Pat Hazekamp passed away peacefully on April 3rd, 2013 with her family by her side after a long fight with lung cancer. She was born in Blackduck, MN to Thomas and ReNaye Costello. She was one of five children, preceded in death by her sister Caren Swain and her brother Gary Costello. Pat graduated high school from Blackduck in 1961 and graduated from Bemidji State University in 1966 with Bachelor degrees in Fine Arts and English.
She met John Hazekamp while attending the university and after knowing each other for only six weeks were married in June of 1964. Upon graduating they moved west to Silverton, Oregon in 1966 where she became a school teacher in the Silver Falls School District. She was a passionate teacher to thousands of kids and retired after 36 years of teaching art, drama and language arts.
Pat was a loving wife to John and mother to two children, son Earl and daughter Marta. She was an accomplished artist, known widely for her Christmas angels and loved to create art throughout her life.
Pat Hazekamp is survived by her loving husband John, her children Marta and Earl (Hollie Vanek; Andrew, Brison and Luke Monroe) Hazekamp, and by her sister Jean Jackson and brother Terrance Costello. She is also survived by nieces Amy Whitehead, Meghan Baumann, Eve Hogard, Teryl Fadger, Tracy Cartwright, Jenny Causey, Julie Fry and nephews Dan Costello and Michael DeSutter.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Silverton, Oregon on Saturday, April 13th at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers we would ask that you donate to the art programs at either Mark Twain Middle School or Evergreen School. Arrangements are by Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton.
