CAMP RABIDEAU – Rabideau Conservation Academy and Learning Center welcomes new Americorps VISTA member Noah Pappano.

Pappano, a resident of Maine, was sworn in as a member of the Initiative Foundation’s central Minnesota VISTA project on Aug. 3 and will be serving locally with Camp Rabideau near Blackduck and Bemidji, and with the Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig School near Bena. Pappano’s main tasks during his year of service will be to help the organization increase its capacity to serve more youth and young adults through Rabideau’s hands-on learning programs in conservation, forestry, solar energy and growing locally produced healthy foods. Noah will work with the school to transfer the solar production model developed at Rabideau and to increase the capacity of this non-profit organization.

Pappano has two bachelor degrees in English and creative writing, along with experience working with civic and community organizations.

To enable Pappano to serve full-time for a year, the Corporation for National and Community Service will provide him with a modest living allowance along with medical coverage, training and relocation expenses. When Pappano completes his service, he can choose between either a $1,500 cash stipend or an education award of $5,550 to help pay for further schooling, vocational training or qualified student loans.

In central Minnesota, 20 VISTA projects, coordinated by the Initiative Foundation in Little Falls, will fight poverty through activities such as financial literacy training, youth enrichment and job skills development while helping people in poverty access basic necessities for living and means for getting ahead.
