Otto Everett Mickelson
Otto Everett Mickelson passed away peacefully at his home in Eagan on June 25. Otto was born on February 19, 1925 in Fosston, Minnesota, to Otto and Engla (Berglund) Mickelson. He graduated from Fosston High School in 1943. He studied industrial arts and education at Bemidji State Teachers College, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1947.
On August 21, 1949, he married Patricia Warford, of Bemidji, at the Presbyterian Church in Bemidji. They had two daughters, Jean and Kay. Otto and Patricia were married for 61 years; Patricia passed away in 2011.
Otto was an industrial arts teacher in the Minnesota towns of Windom, Menahga and Pine River between 1947 and 1959. In 1959 he began teaching elementary school for District 199 in Inver Grove Heights and continued to work there until his retirement in 1984.
Otto enjoyed returning to Fosston and Bemidji regularly to visit family and friends and to attend high school and college reunions.
He is survived by daughters, Jean Mickelson, of Littleton, CO, and Kay Mickelson, of Minneapolis; and his grandsons, Aaron Black, of Boston, MA, and Jonathan (Andrea) Black, of Denver, CO. Otto was preceded in death by his wife Patricia; his parents; and his sisters, Delilah Thornton, Helen Campbell, and Marjorie Jorgensen.
