Orval Conklin

Orval C. Conklin, 78, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, January 4, 2009 at St. Mary's Innovis Health-Oak Crossing, Detroit Lakes.

Orval C. Conklin was born to Andrew and Nancy (Stewart) Conklin on Jan. 11, 1930 in Shell Lake Township, rural Detroit Lakes. He attended country school near Shell Lake and later worked as a logger until his health diminished. He moved to Detroit Lakes and attended the Becker County DAC for many years. He had been a resident at Oak Crossing (formerly St. Mary's Nursing Center) since 1992. Orval was a very kind person, who always thought of others. He loved to read western novels, and also liked music.

Surviving Orval are his four brothers, Floyd (Norma) Conklin of Frazee, Wayne Conklin of Detroit Lakes, Donald Conklin, of Gilbert, Minn., and Alvin (JoAnn) Conklin of Frazee; one sister, Joann (Robert) Eliassen of Detroit Lakes; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Orval in death were his parents; five brothers, Clifford, Gordon, Lester, Leon and Marvin Conklin; and two sisters, Vera Conklin and Alice Conklin.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes; there will be visitation for one our prior to the start of services. Burial will be in the Linnell Cemetery at Ponsford.
