The Loon Opera Company production of "Madama Butterfly" by Puccini opens at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Bemidji High School Auditorium. The production is a fully-staged opera with English supertitles projected on a screen above the action for the audience to follow the storyline. The orchestra is made up of players from the Bemidji Symphony, St. Cloud Symphony and the Greater Grand Forks Symphony under the baton of musical director Matthew Goinz. BEMIDJI - The time spent in preparing for a fully-staged and orchestrated opera is a daunting task even for professionals in the Loon Opera Company's production this summer.

Darla Diltz saw her first opera when her mother, Judy Murphy, sang the lead in Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" for the Wichita Opera Company.
