Only specialists can identify a real cougar, right?
In reference to Sue Johnson's letter to the editor in the Sept. 30 edition of the Pioneer, good for you! It was an excellent letter. I know of six neighbors who have called our infamous Department of Natural Resources on cougar sightings and everyone has gotten the same answer -- you are mistaken, you are seeing something else, house cats, bobcats, lynx, etc. After all, only DNR specialists can identify a real cougar.
After being treated rudely and basically being called ignorant, the sightings have just stopped being reported. Numerous people are still seeing cougars, including the sighting of two cougar cubs in the Schoolcraft game refuge.
It's no wonder people have no time or faith in our DNR.
