According to the Minnesota State Patrol out of Brainerd:

Richard E. Imm of Chassel, Mich., was driving a 2001 Volkswagen ME 27 west on Highway 2 when he crossed the centerline and sideswiped a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado that was headed east.

Imm was wearing his seat belt and the airbag deployed, but he died in the crash. The accident occurred at about 7:45 p.m. about 1 mile west of Bena in Cass County.

Driving the Silverado was Lynnette S. Hansen, 44, of Cloquet, Minn., Her daughter, 4-year-old Maya R. Hansen also was in the pickup truck. The State Patrol listed their conditions as "not documented," which could mean that neither was injured. Both were wearing their seat belts.

Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.
