Olson's hits lead way in BHS softball win over Grand Rapids
Hanna Olson had three singles and four RBI to lead the Bemidji girls softball team to an 11-2 win Thursday at Grand Rapids.
The Lumberjacks improved to 4-1 and will be off until next Thursday when they invade Duluth East.
Bemidji opened Thursday's scoring with a run in the first inning as Summer Monsrud bunted for a base hit and raced to third on an error. Jineane Williams singled her home later in the stanza.
The Thunderhawks answered with a solo run in their half of the frame but BHS started to take control with four runs in the third.
Monsrud walked to begin the rally and Grand Rapids hurt itself with three consecutive errors which produced two runs.
Olson capped the frame with a 2-run single.
Singles by Monsrud and Morehouse set the table for Jineane Williams' 2-run double in the fourth and Olson promptly plated Williams with her second single of the day.
A pair of walks and an error combined for another Bemidji run in the fifth and the Jacks iced the win with two in the seventh, an inning which included two walks, an error, a hit batter and Olson's third single.
"Our goal was to put pressure on Grand Rapids because it is a young team and the plan worked," said Bemidji coach Brad Takkunen. "Grand Rapids had six errors but we also were able to string some hits together."
