Officials warn of bank scam in Walker
BELTRAMI COUNTY -- The Beltrami County dispatch center has received numerous phone calls regarding text messages sent to cell phones saying that a person's bank account has been compromised and asking people to call a specific number.
The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office has confirmed this is a scam. If you received a text, the sheriff's office advises not replying to the text or calling the numbers listed. Instead, call First National Bank in Walker at (218) 547-1160. The bank is currently looking into the situation to identify the perpetrator of the scam. People who are not First National Bank of Walker customers are also receiving the messages.
The sheriff's office emphasized that this is not the First National Bank of Bemidji. Further, the sheriff's office asks that the Bemidji Law Enforcement Center not be called regarding the scam as it has received more than 100 calls on the issue and the excess reports are flooding the phone lines.
