Officer: Driver who hit, killed teen in St. Paul tried to flee
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A police officer and the boyfriend of a teenage girl struck and killed in St. Paul say the accused driver tried to flee from the scene, but couldn't because his vehicle was so badly damaged.
Fifty-one-year-old Carlos Colorado is charged in Ramsey County District Court with criminal vehicular homicide. He's accused of killing 16-year-old Clarisse Grime as she sat on a grassy embankment waiting for a bus with her boyfriend last July.
Police Sgt. Greg Gravesen testified Monday his accident reconstruction shows Colorado tried accelerating up the embankment after hitting Grime, but slipped back down because of a flat tire.
The Star Tribune (http://tinyurl.com/bo5pgza) says defense attorney, Alberto Miera, told a judge Colorado felt numbness in his leg and arm just before the crash, tried to brake, but accelerated instead.
