MONTICELLO - The weekend three-game road trip for the Bemidji softball team began on a negative note as the Lumberjacks dropped an 8-2 decision Friday to Monticello.
BHS will hope for a better result today when it visits Mounds View at 11:30 a.m. and Tartan at 2 p.m.
After opening the season with five victories and averaging 13.6 runs in those wins, BHS was shutout Thursday by Grand Rapids and managed only five hits Friday.
"The pitching we faced Friday wasn't much better than we faced early in the year," said Bemidji coach Brad Takkunen. "We just have to get re-focused and have fun playing the game."
Monticello used a bunt, an error, a single, a double and a passed ball to score three runs in the opening inning. The home team upped its lead to 5-0 in the second on a walk and consecutive doubles.
The Lumberjacks found the scoreboard in the third when Courtney Black ripped a home run.
Monticello, however, answered with two in the fourth to regain control.
Bemidji tallied its second run in the fifth when Jessa Lusby walked, stole second and scored on Black's RBI single.
Bri Neumann pitched three innings and took the loss.
